Ulemj Glamuzina is a semi-abstract artist originally from Mongolia who has lived in New Zealand for nearly twenty years. Her background in education and linguistics influences her work, encouraging her to see the world through layers of culture and meaning.
She works primarily in mixed media (using charcoal, ink, acrylic, etc.) to create textured and layered pieces. Her subjects—often faces, bodies, and landscapes—are not intended to be literal depictions, but rather “emotional terrains” that explore themes of fragility and humanity.
Ulemj views art as a communal experience. She draws inspiration from cross-cultural connections and memories. Her primary motivation is the exchange of emotion with the audience, finding joy when her work moves or transforms the viewer.
