February of 2023 we spent a couple of months touring the South Island in our camper. One of the stand out spots we enjoyed was Lake Tekapo. We had the most amazing weather event while we were there. We started the day off with around 27 degrees, so hot we actually went swimming in lake Tekapo (which apparently is an unusual occurance…) then as the day wore on huge winds swept in and storm clouds gathered in the distance, overnight the temperature dropped to 3 degrees, and it snowed in the mountains. We really felt the force of nature and the power of the weather. This painting shows the wind through the grasses and the storm brewing. And skirting the edges of the trees the amazing colour of lake Tekapo, which is so unnatural it really is hard to believe when you see it. Christie Cramer
